Thank you, College

31 01 2010

I graduated from college about 6 months ago. Since that time I have come to find that the “real world” is certainly not all that it’s cracked up to be. I moved back in with my parents, to a town where I have few, if any, friends. Leaving my college friends, who became like a second family during our crazy college days. I quit my job is Washington because I couldn’t get a raise; now I work in the same job for a dollar less an hour. Not that I’m complaining…to much. When I imagined my life after college I never dreamed I would be back here, but then again I never dreamed of anything. I always knew I would go to college after highschool, but I never thought about what I would do after college. Some people go to college and leave with husband, some leave with a job, or internship, but I left with the frightening realization that I could do whatever I wanted and I have come to the even more frightening conclusion that I have absolutely no idea what I want.

I’ve tried to find a “big kid” job, you know something with benefits, or hell even a chair. Is it so much to ask that I after spending so much money on an education, I should in return get a job where I at least get the weekends off?  Alas, this is not where I find myself. Working at the front desk of a hotel, in Helena Montana, for little money, no friends, and a shift from 4-12 at night friday through monday. Gee thanks College. Furthermore my boss is 27-year-old highschool drop-out ex-felon. Who loves the power trip, and belittling his employees. If you ever want a confidence boost come have my job.
